As sites created by HN+ are heavily content-driven, we provide a host of configuration options to help you manage your content,
which is available in the admin panel under the content settings section.
In this page, we will cover some of the more important settings that you need to know to make most out of your HN+ site.
Content URLs
By default, each content (or post) on your HN+ site will have a URL which includes the
identifier (content ID) and a slug, which is generated by the post title.
A slug is a user-friendly and SEO-friendly part of a URL that identifies a specific piece of content on your site. An example of a URL with a slug is
your-hn-site.com/item/123/my-first-post.
However, there are times when you might want to customize the slug for a content.
For example, your HN+ site might be in a different language and hence when the URL is shared, the slugs portion of the URL
isn't well transferred by different browsers.
In such a scenario, you can turn off the slug generation, which is available in the content settings section as shown below
Note that by disabling the slug generation, you may lose out on SEO benefits of having a slug, so it is a trade-off between having a URL with
HTML-encoded characters in some browsers which may look a little "ugly" vs. having only the content ID in the URL.
